International Desk: Russia is considering withdrawing from the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty, or CTBT. Some government officials are advising Moscow to withdraw from the deal.

The CTBT Treaty bans all nuclear weapons testing in the international arena. However, this agreement, signed in 1996, never came into effect because the governments of several countries, including the United States, never ratified it. A Russian daily said Russia’s withdrawal from the deal would be largely symbolic.

Through this, the positions of Russia and America will be the same on the question of the CTBT agreement. Discussions in this regard are still at a very early stage. The CTBT Treaty prohibits the testing of all types of nuclear weapons except underground.

Maria Zakharova, spokesperson of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reminded the media that the attempt to ban nuclear weapons testing through the signing of this agreement in 1996 failed. For this, he blames America’s destructive and irresponsible actions.
