International Desk: 55 pilot whales washed up on a beach in Scotland have died. However, it is not known why the whales died. Although pilot whales have the word whale in their name, they are dolphins. Dolphins of this species are always together. They are very conscious of family. BBC news.

The whales were found by an organization called British Divers Marine Life Rescue Charity (BDMLR). BDMLR said the 55 whales died before their rescue team reached the beach. They found only 15 whales alive. Later, out of those 15, three died. The rescue team helped 12 whales back to sea. Eight of them are adults, and four are children. “Unfortunately, no one survived the ordeal,” BDMLR captioned a photo of the dead whales posted on its social media platform, Facebook. The reason why the whales got stuck on the beach is not yet known.

However, it is believed that the group may have followed a female whale. “One of the dead whales was found to have a vaginal dislocation,” the BDMLR said. It is therefore suspected that the entire group was trapped following a female whale as she approached the beach due to giving birth. Andrew Brownlow, of the Scottish Marine Animal Stranding Scheme, told the BBC: “This is our biggest ever in terms of animal casualties.

However, the cause of the whales deaths is not known. Some whale samples and data will be collected for an autopsy to determine the cause of death. The whales will be buried after the autopsy is completed. It should be noted that such an incident has happened in Scotland before. Pilot whales are seen in large numbers in this area. The British Divers Marine Life Rescue Charity was formed in 1988 to save these pilot whales.
