Economy Desk: In the recently concluded fiscal year 2022–23, Bangladesh exported goods worth 5.3 billion dollars to the UK market. As a result, Bangladesh’s exports have increased significantly compared to last year. Last year, Bangladesh exported goods worth 4.8 billion dollars to the European country. And exports have doubled from $2.7 billion a decade ago.
It is reported that the main export products contributing to this achievement are ready-made garments, frozen food, information technology engineering, leather and jute products, and bicycles. However, almost 80 percent of Bangladesh’s exports are knitwear and ready-made garments.
On the other hand, in terms of imports, Bangladesh’s total trade with the United Kingdom in the first 11 months up to May of the 2022–23 fiscal year was 380 million dollars. But overall, the country’s exports have seen a record 6.67 percent growth compared to last year.
Total exports in the last financial year were 55.55 billion dollars. According to Bangladesh Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) data, the garment sector has contributed most to these exports. Currently, the United Kingdom is Bangladesh’s third-largest export destination after the European Union and the United States.
