International Desk: The death toll has risen to 28 due to heavy rains in northwestern Pakistan. At least 145 people were injured at the same time. Qatar-based Al Jazeera reported this information in a report on Saturday (June 10).

According to reports, the casualties occurred after houses collapsed due to torrential rains in various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab provinces.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Disaster Management Authority said at least 25 people were killed in four districts of the province. 69 houses were partially destroyed. Apart from this, another 145 people were injured in various rain-related incidents, including uprooted trees collapsing on electrical transmission towers.

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday expressed grief over the loss of lives due to the storm and ordered authorities to speed up relief efforts.

Meanwhile, Pakistan has already started taking precautions to avoid possible damage from the cyclone ‘disaster’. As part of this, Section 144 has been issued in the country’s port city of Karachi. Entry and loitering by the general public are prohibited on all beaches in Karachi. Shehbaz Sharif has ordered officials to take emergency measures as the cyclonic storm approaches the Karachi coast from the Arabian Sea.

Pakistan’s disaster management agency said the “severe and intense” cyclone with wind speeds of 150 kilometers per hour (93 miles per hour) was approaching the south of the country.

On Saturday, the cyclone was located 910 km from South Karachi, 890 km from South Thatta, and 990 km from Ormara.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the current weather conditions will help the cyclone intensify. However, it is not yet certain where the cyclone will hit, according to Saturday’s warning message.
