Dhaka Bureau: The Prime Minister felicitated the Bangladesh women’s football team for winning the SAFF Championship and crowning the excellence of South Asia. On Wednesday (November 9) at 10 am in the Shapla Hall of the Prime Minister’s Office, the women who won the SAF were felicitated.
The Prime Minister gave an honor check to each member of the winning team. Prime Minister awarded 5 lakh taka to 23 women footballers. Apart from this, a check of Tk 2 lakh was given to each of 11 team officials and coaches by the Prime Minister.
Sabina Khatun, the captain of the Bangladesh women’s football team, reminisced about the victory of SAFF title and the later days of Bangladesh women’s football. Besides, a documentary film on SAFF Women’s Championship 2022 was also shown at the event. SAF winning girls presented the SAF champion trophy to the Prime Minister.
On the occasion, the Prime Minister congratulated the winning female footballers and wished them more success. On behalf of the Bangladesh Football Federation (BAFFE), the football was handed over to the Prime Minister as a memento by BAFEF President Kazi Salahuddin.
Under the chairmanship of State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russel, BAF President Kazi Salahuddin addressed the reception and Youth and Sports Secretary Mejbah Uddin gave a welcome speech as a special guest.
Incidentally, on September 19, the Bangladesh women’s team created history by defeating the hosts 3-1 in the Women’s SAFF Championship at the Dashrath Stadium in Nepal. Sabina-Sanjidara received a colorful reception from the public in the open-top bus after returning home with the history-making trophy. The winning girls also received felicitations from various institutions and individuals. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was out of the country on state work at that time. On his return to the country, he announced the reception of the girls.
