Dhaka Bureau: Ilisha-1 gas well in Bhola has been declared as the 29th gas field in the country. State Minister for Power and Energy Nasrul Hamid announced this in a press conference in Baridhara of the capital on Monday (May 22) morning.
Stating that gas can be extracted from Elisha from 2026 to 2030, Nasrul Hamid said that great possibilities have been opened through this. This is good news for people all over the country.
Russian company Gazprom is working on gas extraction under the supervision of Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company (BAPEX). It is expected that 20 million or 20 million cubic feet of gas can be extracted daily from this new gas well. The well has gas reserves of 2’00 BCF or more.
On March 9, the digging of Ilisha-1 well started in the area adjacent to Maler Hat of Paschim Ilisha Union of Sadar Upazila.
Bhola district has total 9 wells of 3 gas fields. These are 6 wells in Shahabazpur gas field of Borhanuddin upazila, 2 wells in Bhola North of Veduria Union in Sadar and lastly 1 well in Elisha gas field in Ilisha. The amount of gas stored in Bhola is 1.7 TCF.
