DNCC will organize a ward-level volleyball tournament

Sports Desk: Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) said that the volleyball tournament will be organized at the ward level. Atiqul Islam He said that the second edition of the DNCC Mayor’s Cup has started with the theme of ‘Being involved in sports, keeping drugs away’. Along with cricket and football, volleyball has been included in the Mayor’s Cup tournament to promote volleyball. DNCC will organize volleyball games at the ward level to increase the popularity of volleyball.

On Monday (May 8) morning in the capital’s Uttara No. 4 Sector Kalyan Samiti ground, Mayor Md. Mayor said during the inauguration of the volleyball event of the Mayor’s Cup Tournament of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC). Atiqul Islam says these things.

He said the Mayor’s Cup is being organized to send a message to the future generation against drugs. There is no alternative to sports to build a drug-free country. This tournament is to encourage our children to play sports and keep drugs away. The youth should come to the field instead of sitting at home. Come to the field and participate in sports.

The mayor also said that the field is needed for sports. We have already developed and opened many fields for the city corporation. Playgrounds and parks are specified when various developer companies make designs. But later, they sold the field and park in the form of plots instead of building them. I request that you all ensure the grounds and parks are as per the design. While inaugurating the flyover at Kalshi, the Hon’ble Prime Minister announced that the Kalshi Balu field would be constructed instead of a building. Such a sudden decision is possible only for a sports-loving prime minister.

Mentioning that girls should also participate in sports along with boys, Mayor Atiqul Islam said, I want our girls to play in the field along with boys. To encourage girls, we have added women’s volleyball and women’s cricket events to this edition of the Mayor’s Cup. Those councilors who form the boys cricket team as well as the girls cricket team will be rewarded and given separate allocations.

The mayor also said that there should be no discrimination between children in non-communal Bangladesh. Women in Bangladesh are no longer behind. It was our girls who won the SAFF championship. Doing well in cricket and football. Therefore, the participation of girls in volleyball will also increase.

He said that badminton will also be included in the upcoming edition of the Mayor’s Cup.

Mentioning that this almost lost volleyball game is becoming popular again, Atiqul Islam said that volleyball is a far-reaching game of flying balls. Lost Volleyball has now advanced to the national and international levels. Bangladesh’s volleyball team is consistently achieving success. Cox’s Bazar has been confirmed as the venue for the beach volleyball qualifiers for the 2024 Olympics to be held in Paris. It is a big achievement for Bangladesh.

Incidentally, like the first edition of the DNCC Mayor’s Cup, 54 wards of Dhaka North City Corporation and 18 wards of reserved women’s seats are participating. 18 teams and 14 teams are participating in the men’s division of the volleyball discipline. In today’s opening game, women’s reserved wards 6 and 17 faced each other. Ward No. 17 won 2-0 sets. The games of men’s cricket, women’s cricket, and football disciplines will also be held soon.
