Dhaka Bureau: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina arrived in the US capital, Washington, DC, on May 1 to attend the program organized on the occasion of 50 years of partnership between Bangladesh and the World Bank. He landed at the Dallas airport in Washington on April 28 at 3:35 p.m. local time.
Earlier, the Prime Minister left for the United States after a four-day bilateral visit to Japan. He left Tokyo Haneda International Airport at 3:50 p.m. local time on Friday (April 28).
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will participate in a program titled ‘Reflection on 50 Years of World Bank-Bangladesh Partnership’ on the occasion of 50 years of relationship between Bangladesh and the World Bank at the World Bank headquarters on Monday (May 1). On the same day, the Prime Minister will attend a luncheon with the President, Managing Director, and Vice Presidents of the World Bank. Besides, he will also meet with the board members of the World Bank.
A delegation of businessmen led by the President and Chief Executive Officer of the United States Chamber of Commerce will meet the Prime Minister during the visit. During her visit to Washington, the Prime Minister will attend a civic reception organized by the expatriate Bangladeshi community living in the United States and will also participate in some programs.
On April 25, the Prime Minister left Dhaka on a 15-day visit to Japan, the United States, and the United Kingdom.
Eight agreements and memoranda of understanding were signed in the presence of Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina during their visit to Japan.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina met Emperor Naruhito of Japan. Later, he went to the office of the Prime Minister of Japan. A guard of honor was given to Sheikh Hasina there. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina held a bilateral meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.
Also, during the visit to Japan, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid a courtesy call on the Japanese Foreign Minister, the President of JICA, the President of the Japan Bangladesh Parliamentary Friendship League, the Governor of the Japan Bank for International Cooperation, and the wife of the late Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
During her visit to Japan, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina participated in many programs, including the Bangladesh Investment Summit, a reception organized by the Bangladeshi community living in Japan. During his visit to Japan, the Prime Minister will honor eminent Japanese citizens for their special contribution to the Great War of Liberation. He also visited the Miraikan National Museum.
Next Thursday (May 4), Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will go to London, United Kingdom, from Washington. The Prime Minister is visiting London at the invitation of King Charles III of Britain. On Friday, May 5, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will attend the reception ahead of the coronation of the new king and queen at Buckingham Palace. Besides, Sheikh Hasina will also attend a program with Commonwealth leaders on this day.
The King and Queen will attend the coronation reception at Westminster Abbey on Saturday, May 6. During his visit to London, he will participate in various programs, including a program at Cambridge University and attending the reception of Bangladeshi expatriates in the UK.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will return to the country on Tuesday (May 9) morning after her visit to the United Kingdom.
