International Desk: Five people have been arrested by the police in connection with the sacrifice of a woman in a temple in India. The incident took place four years ago in a temple in Guwahati, India’s northeastern state of Assam. Indian media outlet NDTV said this in a report.

According to the report, 2019, the police officers were surprised after the headless body was recovered from the temple in Guwahati about four years ago. After a long investigation, the police arrested five people suspected of being involved in the incident.

Guwahati Police Commissioner Digant Barah said on Tuesday that all five arrested were involved in the plan to kill the woman. However, a total of 12 people participated in the murder.

He said the alleged prime suspect, 52-year-old Pradeep Pathak, planned to sacrifice the woman as part of a religious ritual on the occasion of his brother’s death anniversary. The accused believed that the sacrifice would appease the spirit of the deceased, said Digant Barah.

In 2019, a woman named Shanti Shaw (64), visited the temple in Guwahati, a remote region of India. Later, the accused beheaded him with a knife.

Last January, the police identified Shanti’s body in the temple. Until then, the police could not make any headway in this case. The investigation took a new turn after the body was recovered. The police managed to track down some of the criminals. However, the other accused in this case are still absconding.
