Economy Desk: Import-export activities are closed through Akhaura land port in Brahmanbaria. On the occasion of the announcement of the results of the assembly elections in the Indian state of Tripura, the import and export operations through this land port have been stopped.
Trade operations through the port were suspended for two days from Wednesday (March 1) morning. However, the people concerned said that even though the import-export activities are closed, the passenger traffic between the two countries is normal.
Shafiqul Islam, general secretary of the Akhaura Land Port Import-Exporter Association, said that on February 16, the legislative assembly elections of Tripura state were held. Election results will be announced on March 2. On this occasion, transport movement will be controlled throughout the state of Tripura on March 1 and 2. Therefore, Indian businessmen have decided to stop the import and export of goods through Akhaura land port on Wednesday and Thursday. However, since March 3 is a weekend, import-export activities will start as usual on March 4.
It should be noted that fish, rods, cement, stone, plastic, and other products are exported daily through this port.
