Dhaka Bureau: Anant Garments and Sportswear Limited has received the “Lead Platinum” certificate of an environmentally friendly green factory. This garment factory achieved the LEAD Platinum certification level with a score of 89. As a result, the country now has 188 environmentally friendly green factories.Through this, Bangladesh has taken another step towards environmentally friendly, green factories.
According to the BGMEA, 51 of the top 100 green factories in the world are in Bangladesh. This number was 50 before Anant Garments and Sportswear got the certificate. That is, the number of green factories in the country is increasing day by day. Among the total number of eco-friendly green factories in the country, there are 64 platinum-certified factories, 110 gold-certified factories, 10 silver-certified factories, and 4 non-certified factories.
BGMEA director Mohiuddin Rubel said that after the corona epidemic, the Russia-Ukraine war is affecting the economy. Where we are concerned about the economy, about exports, and about export orders, we have been doing regular branding through lead-certified factories. Apart from this, there are other matters to be followed, including safety and security. Due to these reasons, the confidence of buyers in Bangladeshi clothing is constantly increasing. which increases our working power.
He said, “I don’t know when the economic disaster due to the war will end, but the green factory is helping to put us in a better position to face the damage than others.” Our products are at the top of the buyers’ wish lists. Those who invested earlier in green factories are now reaping the rewards.
He said if our garment factory owners continue to invest in green factories like this, it will bring good results after dealing with the disaster recession. BGMEA believes that our growth will be greater than others’.
It should be noted that the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) is one of the organizations in the world that certifies environmentally friendly green factories. The USGBC was established in 1993. Apart from factories, commercial buildings, schools, hospitals, homes, sales centers, prayer centers, etc. can be developed as eco-friendly facilities under the organization. They are certified as “lead” eco-friendly establishments. Full version of LEAD: Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design To receive the certificate, a project must maintain the highest standards from construction to production under the supervision of the USGBC. For this, the application can be made by constructing a new building or renovating an old building. There are a total of 110 points for fulfilling the nine conditions for the LEAD certificate. You can earn the “Lead Platinum,” “Lead Gold,” “Lead Silver,” and “Lead Certified” certificates if you earn more than 80 points. The majority of the country’s environmentally friendly green factories are certified by the USGBC.
