The government’s marketing body, the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB), also highlighted the price hike in its daily market rate report. This organization of the government said that the prices of cows, chickens, and broiler chickens have increased in the last week. According to the TCB report, currently, beef is being sold at Tk 700 to Tk 720 per kg, beef at Tk 1,000 to Tk 1,100, and broiler chicken at Tk 180 to Tk 200 per kg. Despite the fact that a kg of broiler chicken costs Tk 200 to Tk 210 in the market.which was sold between Tk 660 and Tk 700, Tk 850 and Tk 900, and Tk 145 and Tk 160 per kg even a week ago. According to the information in the TCB report, beef was sold at 580 to 620 taka per kg, beef meat at 800 to 900 taka, and broiler chicken was sold between 140 and 150 taka per kg in the capital market last year. According to this, the price of beef per kg increased by 18.33 percent, beef by 23.53 percent, and broiler chicken by 31.03 percent.
Amjad Kabir, an employee of a private company who came to market in the capital’s Kawran market yesterday, expressed his disappointment over the price of meat and said that due to the rampant increase in the price of meat, employees like us will not be able to buy beef and cow meat even for one day in a month. Hakim, a meat seller in Kawran market, said that beef prices have increased and cows have to be bought at a higher price. Along with that, there is extortion in various places. Due to these reasons, the prices of cows and cow products have fallen very much. which affects the meat. However, related sources said that the holy month of Ramadan is starting next month. Every year, on the occasion of Ramadan, the price of meat is increased on the night before Shabbat. But this time it was extended about a month ago, so as not to face any kind of criticism. Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Poultry Association has blamed various corporate organizations in this sector for increasing the price of broiler chicken. Recently, in a press conference, the president of the organization, Suman Howladar, complained that big corporate organizations are increasing the price of broiler chicken and eggs by syndicating the market. He said that corporate companies are producing almost everything, including poultry food (feed), chicks, and medicine. The common farmers of the country are not able to withstand their violence. Many small farms have already closed. Out of 160,000 farms, the number of small farms currently stands at 60,000. Still, not all farms have chickens. And the corporate institutions of this sector are taking advantage of this. They are increasing the price of broiler chicken and eggs at will.
Yesterday in the market, each farm egg was sold for 45 to 47 taka. which is more than 2 rupees in a week. A month ago, each egg was sold for 35 to 40 taka. As a result, the price of each egg has increased by 22.67 percent in a month. Along with meat, fish prices have also increased in the market. Large-sized tilapia was selling for between Tk 170 and Tk 180 per kg just a month ago. It is now being sold for 200 to 210 taka. The same is the case with Pangas. 10 to 15 taka per kilogram of pangas fish is currently being sold at 170 to 190 taka. The price of other fish has also increased. Farmed rui, katal 280 to 350 taka, shrimp 600 to 950 taka, 500-gram hilsa 750 taka, 1 kg hilsa 1 thousand 100 to 1 thousand 200 taka, large size tenga 550 to 750 taka, horn 350 to 550 taka, kai 180 to 220 taka, and bim are selling for taka 550 to 600 per kg.
