Dhaka Bureau: Bangladesh has announced the revision of the power purchase agreement signed in 2017 with Adani Power, a subsidiary of the Indian giant Adani Group. In that contract, Gautam Adani’s company demanded a much higher price for coal. Because of this, Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) has taken steps to reduce it.

In 2017, BPDB entered into an agreement with Adani Power to import electricity from a 1,600 MW coal-based thermal power plant built at Godda in the state of Jharkhand. According to the agreement, Bangladesh will pay the price of coal used in the power plant. However, the Bangladeshi authorities now feel that Gautam Adani’s company has specified too much coal price in the contract. News from The Economic Times.

A BPDB official said on condition of anonymity, “Coal prices were said to be below $250 per metric ton.” But there the price is set above 400 dollars. We have approached the Indian company to renegotiate the contract.”

Meanwhile, the Indian government has nothing to do with the Adani Power-Bangladesh contract and the recent problems with the contract will not have any impact on India-Bangladesh bilateral relations, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs said. Last Thursday in New Delhi, the spokesperson of the ministry Arindam Bagchi said these things in front of the reporters.
