International Desk: A powerful explosion occurred during prayers in a mosque in the Peshawar Police Lines area of Pakistan. At least 28 people were killed. At least 150 people were injured. The country’s security and health officials reported this information.
According to the influential Pakistani newspaper Dawn, a state of emergency has been declared in the area after the explosion. Besides, the area has been cordoned off. The injured have been admitted to Lady Reading Hospital.
The rescue workers said that this huge explosion occurred during the Zohar prayer. The attacker was in the front row during prayers. He then blew himself up.
Based on an initial investigation, the country’s security officials said that the attack was a suicide bombing. According to officials, the explosion was so loud that it could be heard from a long distance away.Apart from this, they said that the sound of an explosion was also heard.
Mohammad Asim, a spokesman for Lady Reading Hospital, confirmed to Reuters that 150 people were injured in the blast. He said that the condition of some of them is critical.
The country’s police officer, Sikandar Khan, said that some parts of the building collapsed due to the explosion, and it is believed that many people are trapped. According to a Dawn correspondent, the explosion occurred around 1:40 p.m., during the Zohar prayer.
Meanwhile, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the attack. He described suicide attacks as vile. Apart from this, the country’s ousted prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan condemned the attack.
