Dhaka Bureau: Chairman of Evens Group and former president of BGMEA, Anwar-ul Alam Chowdhury (Parvez) has been re-elected as the president of Bangladesh Chamber of Industries (BCI). Abdul Haque announced the results of the bi-annual (2023-25) election of the BCI Board of Directors at the BCI Boardroom on Saturday (January 14).
Besides, Preeti Chakraborty, Chairman of Universal Medical College and Hospital and Director of FBCCI, and Mohammad Yunuch, Managing Director of Yunuch Group and Chairman of Shahjalal Islami Bank, have been elected as senior vice-president and vice-president respectively of BCI.
24 directors were elected in the election. The newly elected BCI Board of Directors formally assumed charge for the term 2023-25.
Shahedul Islam Helal, former president of BCI, was present on the occasion. Md spoke at the organized event. Kohinoor Islam, Member-Election Board; Hafez Haroon-or-Rashid, Member-Election Appellate Board; Preeti Chakraborty, Senior Vice-President, Shahidul Islam Niru, Former Vice-President-BCI.
Of the newly elected 24 directors, 18 are ordinary and 8 are associate. Ordinary 16 people are – Anwar-ul Alam Chowdhury (Parvez), Mohammad Yunus, Dr. Delwar Hossain Raja, Mohammad Ismail Hossain, Rotarian Engineer. Mohabbat Ullah, Mizanur Rahman, M. A. Razzak Khan, Abul Kalam Bhuiyan, SM Shah Alam Mukul, Yashoda Jiban Dev Nath, Md. Shahid Alam, K. M. Rifatuzzaman, Ruslan Nasir, Md. Khair Mia, Sohana Rauf Chowdhury, Md. Mahfuzur Rahman.
Associate members are 8- Preeti Chakraborty, Shahidul Islam Niru, Ranjan Chowdhury, Zia Hyder Mithu, Shah Alam Litu, Nazmul Anwar, Mohammad Ishakul Hossain Sweet, Md. Salim Jahan. BCI newly elected Board of Directors formally assumed charge for the term 2023-2025.
The BCI president said that the new committee will take various initiatives for the development of small and medium industries. Besides, steps will be taken to create new entrepreneurs. As BCI is the one and only national industry chamber based in entire Bangladesh, we all have to try to play our necessary role in removing all kinds of obstacles in the way of all local industries. BCI has already started working on the development of potential sectors like light engineering, agro-based industries, halal products, blue economy, leather products etc. and creation of new entrepreneurs, development of micro and small, cottage industries. In the future, BCI will visit various departments and meet with the district chambers under the department and make a strong effort to identify the existing problems and solve them by establishing a communication with the industrial organizations of the country. He thanked all the members of BCI for being re-elected as president for the term 2023-2025 and expressed hope that the current board will play an important role in the development of the industrial sector, especially micro and small, cottage industry in the country.
