International desk: European country Sweden is still sure about Turkey’s approval to join the US-led NATO military alliance. However, Sweden said that it will not be able to fulfill all the conditions given by Ankara. Swedish Prime Minister Wolf Kristerson said these things at a security conference on Sunday. Aljazeera news.
“Turkey has confirmed that we have done what we said,” Wolf Christerson said. But they want something, which we cannot provide or we are not willing to meet those conditions.
Earlier, Finland and Sweden signed a tripartite agreement with Turkey in 2022. The two countries signed this agreement to gain membership of the US-led North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). Basically, this agreement was made to resolve all the conditions and objections of Turkey to get NATO membership.
The two Nordic countries applied for NATO membership in May after Russia’s military operation in Ukraine began last year. However, Turkey blocked the membership of the two countries on the pretext of appeasing the Kurdish rebels.
According to NATO’s constitution, new membership requires the mandatory approval of all existing members. As a result, despite the non-objection of other members, the membership of Finland and Sweden was blocked due to Turkey’s objection.
