Economy Desk: Amazon announced on Wednesday (January 4) to lay off 18,000 workers due to the uncertain economy. Amazon CEO Andy Jesse said, ‘We know how difficult life can be for laid off workers. We are not taking this lightly either.’
Amazon quickly hired a large number of workers to cope with demand during the corona crisis. Earlier in November they laid off 10,000 workers. Now doing 18 thousand.
Amazon’s CEO said, ‘After November, we are laying off another 18,000 workers. We are giving package to every employee. As the separation payment will be made, it will also be seen that they will get access to health insurance. They will also be helped in getting other jobs.’
JC said the layoffs will begin on January 18. In between, there will be some layoffs in Europe. They are suddenly forced to make this announcement as one of their associates leaked the news. Amazon has also overcome the challenges of an uncertain economy in the past. Will do this time too.
Amazon hired a lot of workers from 2020 to 2022. Their number of employees around the world doubled. As of last September, Amazon had 1.54 million employees. This does not include the additional staff employed during the festival for a few months.
