International Desk: 65 people have died after drinking poisonous liquor in Chapra of Saran district in the eastern state of Bihar, India. The country’s news agency ANI reported the information on Friday (December 16).

According to the report, these deaths occurred due to consumption of poisonous liquor in two villages of the state. However, since 2016, the sale and consumption of alcohol has been banned in the region. However, it is alleged that alcohol is still being sold and consumed.

It is known that the victims started vomiting after drinking alcohol in Saran district of Patna, the capital of Bihar. After that, the situation became worse for them.

The country’s local media reported that many died on the way to the hospital and others died while undergoing treatment. Officials in the country fear that the death toll may rise.

Earlier in Bihar in 2016, 16 people died after drinking poisonous liquor. Later the production and sale of liquor was banned in the state. BJP, the opposition party in the state assembly, raised questions about how the residents of that village drank alcohol despite the ban.

Regarding this, Bihar Chief Minister and United Janata Dal chief Nitish Kumar said in the Assembly on Friday that the families of people who lost their lives due to drinking illegal liquor will not get government assistance.

He complained that in states where opposition parties are in power, the media magnifies such incidents. BJP is responsible for this. The National Human Rights Commission of India has sent a notice to the Bihar government and the state police chief over the death due to consumption of poisoned liquor.
