After Gaza, Lebanon is in ruins, with 2,000 dead

International Desk: October 7, 2023. The Palestinian independence organization Hamas launched an ambush in Israel that day from Gaza. At the same time, the fighters of Hamas ran rampant in the country by crossing the Israeli border. At least 1,200 people were killed in Israel. More than 3,000 injured. Also, at least 250 people were taken hostage by Hamas. On the same day, Israeli forces counterattacked in Gaza. Since then, there has been a war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. The death toll in Gaza has exceeded 41,000. More than 100,000 injured.

Hezbollah, the Iranian-backed Lebanese armed group that supports the Palestinians, has been attacking Israel since last year. Israel also retaliated against the group. However, the Israeli forces have recently increased the number of attacks on Hezbollah. On September 17 and 18, Israel detonated pagers and walkie-talkies across Lebanon.

According to the BBC, tens of thousands of pagers used by Hezbollah fighters exploded simultaneously, killing 12 people, including two children, and injuring tens of thousands of people. There were some explosions during the funeral of some of those killed in that blast.

Apart from this, 20 people were killed and more than 450 injured in the explosion of various types of wireless communication devices, including walkie-talkies. After that, Israel launched a massive attack on Lebanon on September 23. On September 27, Israeli forces killed Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrullah in an ambush in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon.

After that, Israeli forces started ground operations in Lebanon on October 1.

Lebanon’s Ministry of Health reported on Saturday (October 5) that the death toll across Lebanon has so far exceeded 2,000. Among the dead are 127 children and 261 women. In addition, more than 1.2 million Lebanese have been displaced.
