International Desk: The number of displaced people due to Israel’s attack on Lebanon has reached about 1.2 million.
This information was reported in a report by the Disaster Risk Management Unit of the Lebanese Council of Ministers on Wednesday (October 2). News from Xinhua News.
According to the report, most of the displaced people have left their homes and shifted to other areas. Many have rented houses in new places. Many have gone to public and private shelters.
The report also noted that thousands of people have left Lebanon and fled to other countries, particularly Syria.
From September 23 to September 29, 2,34,23 Syrians and 76,269 Lebanese citizens entered Syria.
The report also stated that 867 shelters have been set up for displaced people across Lebanon, of which 643 are full.
Israel has recently intensified airstrikes targeting Hezbollah officials and installations in the Lebanese capital Beirut and its suburbs. At the same time, limited ground operations have begun.
Israeli airstrikes have forced residents of southern and eastern Lebanon, as well as the southern suburbs of Beirut, to flee their homes in search of shelter in safer areas.
The conflict between Hezbollah and Israel escalated after Israel announced in mid-September that it would shift its focus from the Gaza Strip to the country’s north.
Lebanon’s caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati on Wednesday (October 2) called for a ceasefire in the country amid escalating clashes between Israel and the armed group Hezbollah.
“Stop the fighting,” Mikati said in an online briefing organized by the American task force in Lebanon. We don’t need any more blood. We don’t need more destruction. There is an immediate need for a ceasefire here.’
