The Crime Desk: After 12 years, Nazmul Hasan Papon has resigned from the post of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president. He is said to have sent his resignation letter through email.
According to sources, BCB has called an emergency meeting of the board of directors today at the policy-making stage of the board. He resigned by joining this meeting online in the conference room of the Ministry of Youth and Sports located in the Secretariat. His resignation was accepted unanimously.
The government fell after Hasina fled on August 5. Papon was missing since then. A few days later, he called a director of BCB and informed him about his intention to resign.
Then Papon called the meeting according to the constitution today. Then he announced his resignation there.
He has served continuously since his appointment in 2012. Bangladesh cricket also had significant achievements during his time. However, with the second appointment of coach Chandika Hathurusingha towards the end of his tenure, the atmosphere became somewhat toxic due to infighting between the cricketers and several individuals on the board.
After 2013, Papon has been serving as president for three consecutive years in 2017 and 21. In 2013, Nazmul Hasan Papon became director of NSC quota. Later, the directors elected him as the president. In the last two elections, he was elected as a director of Dhaka Abahani as a councillor. Later, Papon was elected president in the same process.
Nazmul Hasan Papon’s current location is unknown. If he was removed from the post of president due to government interference in the cricket board, there was fear of an ICC ban. But that apprehension has been removed for the time being as Papon himself resigned from this post.
