Sports Desk: The work of forming the Interim Committee of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has progressed a lot. Former cricketer and chief selector Farooq Ahmed is going to be the new president of BCB. The outline has already been finalized. Now it is being implemented.
Syed Ashraful Haque and Nazmul Abedin Fahim were also in discussion for the post of president. However, the interim government is trusting Farooq Ahmed.
Youth and Sports Advisor Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan held a private meeting with Farooq Ahmed on Saturday night. Sources said that the BCB constitution and the obligations of the International Cricket Council (ICC) were discussed in the meeting.
RisingBD.com has confirmed that Farooq’s becoming BCB president has been finalized in this meeting. A source related to the formation of the committee told RisingBD, “Farooq Ahmed’s becoming president is almost final.” The adviser had a meeting with him yesterday. Now the work is going on about what will happen.
Meanwhile, Farooq Ahmed said that the discussion about the post of president is going on. He told RisingBD over the phone, “Talks are going on; no decision has been made yet.” If I am offered the position (as president), I will take the job.”
It is clearly written in the constitution of BCB that the president will be elected from among the directors. But Farooq Ahmed is not in the position of director of BCB. He will be nominated by the National Sports Council and brought into the BCB as a director. After that, he will be given the responsibility as president by the vote of BCB directors. RisingBD also confirmed that the quorum required for voting of directors is ready.
In this case, Jalal Yunus and Sazzadul Alam Bobby, who came to BCB as directors through the National Sports Council, are going to be dropped. They will be replaced by Farooq Ahmed, who will come next; it is not finalized yet. Apart from the director, Jalal Yunus is in charge of BCB’s cricket operations committee, while Sajjadul Alam is in charge of the tournament committee.
Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, Advisor to the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Interim Government, gave a glimpse of a solution in the earliest possible time in the press conference on Sunday (August 18) morning. He said, “This matter is ongoing. Don’t want to comment before reaching a solution. I hope you will get good news as soon as possible.
I have seen the resignation of the BCB director and president in the media. But I have not received any official confirmation or statement. We are discussing this matter with various stakeholders, cricket organizers, and former cricketers to arrive at a better solution,” added the Sports Advisor.
It may be noted that former cricketer Farooq Ahmed served as the chief selector of BCB for two terms. He served in the first term from 2003 to 2007, and in the second term from 2013 to 2016. His tenure in the second term was not pleasant. He resigned and left.
