International Desk: Eight years ago, on December 1, Modi announced demonetisation in India. The opposition opposed Modi’s decision at the time, but Modi was unfazed.

In a public meeting, he said, ‘The opposition is afraid of losing their illegal black money. But I am Fakir; I came with Jhola, and I will leave with Jhola. I have nothing.

But on Wednesday, May 15, Narendra Modi put that jhola in front of the Election Commission. It shows that he is not a Fakir at all. Rather, his assets amount to several crores of rupees. He has crores of rupees in his own bank.

He will contest for the BJP from Varanasi on June 1. As per the rules of the Election Commission, the candidates have to inform the Commission through an affidavit detailing their qualifications, assets, income tax returns, debts (if any), and criminal history (if any). Modi also submitted his affidavit during the fourth phase of voting in the country on Monday (May 13). That is why a detailed account of his property has come to light.

Modi said in the affidavit that he has no house or car. When he was Chief Minister of Gujarat, he stayed in a government bungalow. After becoming the Prime Minister of the country in 2014, he lives in the official residence at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, New Delhi, designated for the Prime Minister. Although Modi’s 2019 Lok Sabha election affidavit says he had a house in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, Five years ago, the price of that three and a half thousand square foot house was Tk 1 crore 10 lakhs. Modi said that he did not inherit that house. Bought after becoming Chief Minister of Gujarat in 2002. But although the house was mentioned in the 2019 affidavit, there was no mention of it in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The affidavit does not mention whether he sold the house or not.

The 2019 affidavit says Modi’s total immovable property is Tk 1 crore, 41 lakh, 36 thousand, and 120. Of this, Rs 1 crore and Rs 27 lakh are kept as fixed deposits in an account at the State Bank. Modi’s recent affidavit says that Modi’s deposits in that account have more than doubled in 5 years. As of March 31, Modi has a savings account of Rs 73,304 in State Bank. Another account has Tk 7,000 and Tk 2 crore 85 lakh 60 thousand 338 as fixed deposits.

According to the 2019 affidavit, Modi’s life insurance policy was Rs 1 lakh 90 thousand 347. Apart from this, some shares were also bought in his name. There was a National Savings Certificate of Tk 7 lakh, 61 thousand, 466. However, there is no mention of insurance or shares in the 2024 affidavit. The deposit amount of Modi’s National Savings Certificate has only increased to 9 lakh, 12 thousand, and 398 rupees.

However, according to Modi’s announcement, his sources of income are two. Interest from his salary as Prime Minister and bank deposits. Modi said in the affidavit that he earned 23 lakh, 56 thousand, and 80 rupees in the financial year 2022-2023. 3 lakh, 33 thousand, and 179 taka in income tax based on that income.

Apart from this, Modi has 52 thousand 920 rupees in cash. There are also four gold rings weighing 45 grams. The price of it is 2 lakh, 67 thousand, and 750 taka. In all, Modi has a property worth 3 crore, 2 lakh rupees, and 6 thousand, 889 rupees.

There was some immovable property, but no more. However, since he was the prime minister for ten years, the salary money has accumulated a lot with interest. However, the accounts say that some money has come in addition to those two areas. Maybe it comes from past possessions or investments. But all in all, the owner of nearly two million rupees can be called ‘Fakir’ somehow!

However, the BJP has claimed that Modi is ‘fakir’ in the sense that there is no one before or behind him.
