International Desk: India signed a historic agreement with Iran on Monday. Through this agreement, India is shouldering the responsibility of managing Iran’s Chabahar port for 10 years. The United States has warned of sanctions.

On Monday, US State Department Deputy Spokesman Vedant Patel said, “If anyone is thinking of doing business with Iran, they may be subject to sanctions.”

It is known that Indian Union Minister Sarbananda Sonwal signed a historic agreement on Chabahar port in Iran on Monday. After that, Washington opened up about the matter.

Vedanta Patel said, We are aware of the agreement between India and Iran regarding the port of Chabahar. I have nothing to say about India’s foreign policy. However, their agreement with Iran on the port of Chabahar falls under the bilateral relations of the two countries. US sanctions on Iran are in place and will remain in place.

He then said that if anyone is thinking of doing business with Iran, then sanctions may also be imposed on them. Let them remember that.

Earlier, when India bought the S400 missile system from Russia, the US had warned Delhi of sanctions. But India was adamant in its position.

Incidentally, China had planned to create a commercial corridor by ‘surrounding’ India from all sides. The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor is part of Xi Jinping’s dream ‘Belt Road Initiative’. One of the most important projects in that corridor is the Gwadar port in Balochistan province. But this time, so that Gwadar port does not become a thorn in India’s throat, India signed a 10-year agreement with Iran on Chabahar port.

According to Indian media reports, the country’s Union Minister, Sarbananda Sonwal, went to Iran on Monday to sign a 10-year deal with the country’s government on the port of Chabahar. Through this port, India will be able to connect with Afghanistan, Central Asia, and even Europe. India plans to link Iran’s Chabahar port with the International North-South Transport Corridor. India can also connect with Russia through this corridor.

Earlier, when Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Iran in 2016, the two countries signed an agreement on Chabahar port. Then, in 2018, the then president of Iran, Hassan Rouhani, came to India. Then the two heads of state discussed increasing India’s role in Chabahar port. Then, in January of this year, Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar went to Iran. At that time, there was also a discussion on this issue. And on Monday, Sarbananda Sonwal signed the agreement on Chabahar port standing on Iranian soil.
