Sports Desk: Next month, the ninth edition of the T20 World Cup will be held in the West Indies and the United States. Just a few days before that, there was bad news in the Tiger camp. The country’s star pacer, Taskin Ahmed, is injured.
Taskin Ahmed could not play in the fifth and final T20 of the series against Zimbabwe today due to a side strain injury.
While fielding in the fourth T20 of the series, Taskin got injured while diving to save four. The Tigers won the match by five runs and took a 4-0 lead in the series. However, the severity of his injuries is yet to be ascertained.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief doctor Dr. Debashish Chowdhury said, ‘Taskin got injured by diving to save a run in the fourth T20 against Zimbabwe. He still has pain. That’s why Taskin could not play in the fifth match. Taskin is under observation. We’re looking after him.’
Taskin was in great form in the series, with 8 wickets in 4 matches. Bangladesh lost by 8 wickets after scoring 156 runs for 6 wickets without Taskin.
Taskin has been plagued by injuries since the start of his professional cricket career. He even took a break from Test cricket to keep injuries at bay.
Taskin was rested for the series against Sri Lanka and New Zealand after picking up a shoulder injury during the ODI World Cup in India last year.
After recovering from an injury, he returned to the field with BPL. The series against Zimbabwe was his first international assignment since the World Cup. But Taskin could not play the last match of the series. Due to this, there is uncertainty about his presence in the T20 World Cup next month.
