Dhaka Bureau: National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Abu Hena. Rahmatul Munim said that not only individuals and corporate bodies but also many government institutions do not want to pay taxes. They advocate not paying taxes.
NBR chairman Abu Hena spoke on Tuesday (April 30) at a seminar organized by the Policy Research Institute (PRI) at a hotel in Gulshan, the capital. Rahmatul Munim.
Abu Hena said, “As much as it is said that we all want to pay tax—VAT—in fact, a large section does not want to pay taxes. It is not easy for them. Not just at the individual level; there is constant lobbying from corporate institutions, even from government institutions, to tax or not to tax.’
Minister of State for Finance Wasika Ayesha Khan was the chief guest at the event presided over by Prime Minister’s Economic Adviser Mosiur Rahman. NBR chairman Abu Hena was the special guest. Mahbubul Alam, president of FBCCI, the apex organization of Rahmatul Munim and traders. PRI Executive Director Ahsan H. Mansoor presented the keynote address.
