Putin says there is no ‘rush’ to nuclear war. He also commented that he saw no need to use nuclear weapons in Ukraine.
Asked whether Russia was truly ready for a nuclear war, Putin told Russia-1 TV and news agency RIA, “We are definitely ready from a military-technical point of view.”
He also said that the United States understands that if they deploy US troops on Russian territory or in Ukraine, Russia will consider this action an intervention in the war. The United States has considerable expertise in Russia-US relations and strategic restraint. So I don’t think there is any rush for nuclear conflict, but we are ready for it.’
Putin offered to discuss the Ukraine issue as part of the new post-Cold War borders of European security, as well as the nuclear warning. Meanwhile, the US says Putin is not ready for serious talks on Ukraine.
West-Russia relations are at their worst since the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis over the Ukraine conflict. Putin has warned several times that sending troops to Ukraine by the West would provoke a nuclear war.
