International Desk: Junta forces have carried out an airstrike on a school in the Karenni (Kaya) province of Myanmar. At least four children were killed. More than 10 people were injured.

The attack took place on Monday (February 5) in the remote village of Dawsei, Myanmar media outlet Irrawaddy reported.

A local volunteer told Irrabati that around 10 a.m. on Monday, two warplanes bombed a school building in Dausie village.

The attack was carried out despite no clashes between the junta forces and resistance groups in the area, the volunteer said.

He also said that the school that was attacked taught students from kindergarten to eighth grade. School compounds have bomb shelters to protect them from airstrikes and shelling by the junta forces. But the attack happened suddenly, and because of this, the children did not get a chance to go to the safe shelter. 90 percent of the school building was destroyed in the bombing, and many of the children injured in the attack are in critical condition.

According to the Irrawaddy report, people displaced from other areas due to the war took refuge in this Dausi village, and both local and displaced children studied in this village school. In addition, the warplanes of the junta forces also bombarded another village in the vicinity. However, the casualty figures in that attack are not yet known.
