International Desk: Anti-government protesters set fire to the ancestral home of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the leader of the Islamic Revolution and the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran. This information was given in a report of the Guardian.

Photos and videos posted on social media show a part of Ayatollah Khomeini’s ancestral home in Khomein town burning. Some people are also seen cheering after the house caught fire.

A network of activists said the videos were from Thursday (November 17) evening. Several news agencies also confirmed that Khomeini’s ancestral home was set on fire by protesters. However, regional government authorities have denied arson.

The Khomein County Press Office claimed there was no attack. Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency reported that some people gathered outside the house. Later posted a video of the house. The house of Ayatollah Khomeini, who led Iran’s Great Revolution, is open to the public.

It is said that Ayatollah Khomeini was born in that house. The house is now used as a museum. Various memories of Khomeini’s life are preserved there. Ayatollah Khomeini led the Islamic revolution in Iran in 1979.

Through that revolution, the then leader of Iran Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi was ousted. Reza Pahlavi was known as a pro-Western leader. Through the revolution, Khomeini started running the country under Islamic law. In 1979 he became the first supreme leader of Iran. He was in this position till his death in 1989.

A day of mourning is observed in Iran every year on the day of his death. Anti-government protests have been raging in Iran for two months following the death of Mahsha Amini, a 22-year-old woman in police custody. The protesters are protesting against Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini’s successor, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s current supreme leader, and his government.
