International Desk: The country’s state-owned news agency Kuna announced the death of the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who was 86 years old on Saturday (December 16).

Following Nawaf’s death, his half-brother Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah has been named as the next Emir of Kuwait.

Mishal, who was to become the new emir, is also old now. His current age is 83 years old. Mishal was appointed Crown Prince in 2020 at the age of 80, following the death of the then-Emir Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. Through this, he set the record for being the ‘oldest crown prince’ in the history of the world.

Nawaf became Emir in 2020. But since that time, he has suffered from various physical complications. In 2021, he went to the United States once for treatment, but his condition worsened over the past few days. He has been in intensive care since that time. He died today, at the age of 86. However, the cause of the death of Sheikh Nawaf is not known.

As the recently deceased Nawaf was ill, Crown Prince Mishal was carrying out many important state duties in Kuwait. Instead of Nawaf, Mishal had a meeting with US Vice President Kamala Harris a few days ago. In addition, the announcement of the dissolution of Kuwait’s parliament also came from his mouth.

When Michael was made Crown Prince in 2020, controversy arose because of his age at the time. However, analysts said then that Kuwait’s rulers do not want to hand over power to the next generation. For this reason, the old Michal was made the crown prince instead of the young.
