International Desk: The United States Ministry of Finance (Treasury) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have issued visa and economic sanctions on 37 people from 13 countries, including Afghanistan, China, Haiti, and Iran, on charges of human rights violations.
Sunday (December 10) is International Human Rights Day. This ban was issued on Friday (December 8) in view of that day. Reuters news.
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said in a statement that this action was taken jointly with Britain and Canada.
That is, the 37 people who have been banned from entering the United States have also been banned from entering the United Kingdom and Canada without writing.
Two Iranian intelligence officers, Majid Dastjani and Mohammad Mahdi Khanpour Ardestani, are among the 37 people banned.
Allegation against these two officials: they were working to implement surveillance and attack plans on various US bases in the Middle East to avenge the killing of General Qassem Soleimani, who was killed in a US drone strike in 2020.
Foreign Ministry officials said Majid Dastjani and Mahdi Khanpour Ardestani were in charge of recruiting and training manpower for surveillance and possible attacks on various religious, commercial, and US bases in Iraq and the Middle East.
The US sanctions list also includes several leaders of the hardline Islamist Taliban group that rules Afghanistan. Among these leaders are ministers and officials of the country’s Ministry of ‘Promotion of Virtue and Suppression of Sin’.
Basically, they have been accused of suppressing women, young girls, and teenagers. There are also allegations of murder, kidnapping, flogging, and beatings against banned Taliban leaders and officials.
A spokesman for the Taliban administration did not immediately want to comment on the matter.
