International Desk: New pressure has increased on US President Joe Biden due to the conflict in the Middle East. A human rights organization in the country has sued President Biden, his Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin for failing to stop the Israeli massacre in Gaza. Meanwhile, Blinken acknowledged disagreements with US State Department officials over the role of the US in the Israeli attack on Gaza. He has also sent emails in this regard to officials.
The New York-based Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR) filed a lawsuit against President Biden, Secretary of State Blinken, and Defense Secretary Austin. They are accused of not taking measures in accordance with international and US law to prevent the Hamas-Israel conflict and genocide in Gaza.
According to the CCR, Israel’s targeting of private infrastructure in Gaza amounts to genocide. In 1948, the international convention decided that other countries, including the US, would use force and influence to stop the killing. But the US administration has not taken any measures to stop the Israeli attack on Gaza. This case was filed against it.
The organization also said that America is currently Israel’s biggest ally. At the same time, military aid is being given to Israel to carry out operations against Hamas. According to international law, this is considered unethical by the CCR. And Israel is carrying out genocidal activities against the Palestinians living in Gaza because of US support. The suit, filed in federal court in California, requests that the Joe Biden administration withhold arms, money, and diplomatic aid to Israel. Along with that, it is said in the filed petition to ensure that the president gives assurances to stop the massacre of Palestinian citizens in Gaza.
US President Joe Biden has called for less invasive procedures in major hospitals. President Biden made this call to Israel on Monday. He said the big hospital in Gaza must be protected. At the same time, he also said that he is continuing to discuss with the Netanyahu administration the implementation of the humanitarian pause. Biden said, “My hope is that the level of aggression in Gaza’s hospitals will be reduced.” We are in contact with the Israeli authorities and are working on a humanitarian break for the release of the hostages. However, treatment centers must be protected from these attacks. —Al Jazeera and CNN
