Dhaka Bureau: US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said that the United States will not take any side in the upcoming parliamentary elections in Bangladesh.
He said this in response to questions from reporters at the regular press conference of the US State Department on Monday (November 13) local time.
In response to journalist Mushfiqul Fazal Ansari’s question, Matthew Miller said, “We do not support one group to the exclusion of another.” We only support free and fair elections.
He said, I have said many times before that we support free and fair elections in Bangladesh. We think that the future of the government of Bangladesh should be determined by its people.
He also said, “I welcome the efforts of various journalists to engage me on the internal political issues of Bangladesh, but I will refrain from doing such things.”
The briefing also brought up the issue of the letter sent by US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Donald Lure calling for dialogue.
