Dhaka Bureau: Thursday (May 9) is scheduled to announce the verdict of the case filed in the case of the murder of actor Sohail Chowdhury 25 years ago. Judge Arunabh Chakraborty of the Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal-2 will announce this verdict.
On April 29, the tribunal set today’s date for the judgment after presenting the arguments of the state and the accused.
The defense hearing in the case ended on February 11. Earlier, the court declared the end of the testimony on January 28, as no witness came to the court to testify. The court accepted the testimony of 10 people in the case.
On December 17, 1998, Sohail Chowdhury was shot dead under the Trumps Club in Banani, the capital. In this incident, his brother, Touhidul Islam Chowdhury, filed a case at the Gulshan police station.
Soon after the death of Sohail Chowdhury, the involvement of film producer and businessman Aziz Mohammad Bhai in this murder was alleged.
The other accused in the case are Adnan Siddiqui, Trumps Club owner Afaqul Islam alias Bunty Islam, Tarek Saeed Mamun, Salim Khan, Haroon Or Rashid alias Leather Litton alias Boss Litton, Farooq Abbasi, top terrorist Sanjidul Islam Imon, and Ashish Roy Chowdhury alias Bottle Chowdhury.
After investigating the case, on July 30, 1999, Assistant Police Commissioner Abul Kashem Bepari filed a charge sheet against nine people.
On October 30, 2001, the Third Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court of Dhaka framed charges against the accused. Two years later, the case was sent to Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal No. 2 for speedy disposal. That year, one of the accused applied to the High Court. Due to the application, the case was suspended for 19 years from 2003 by order of the High Court.
