The proposal was canceled on Wednesday local time.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">Earlier, at the Security Council meeting on October 16, the permanent member of the Council, Russia, proposed a resolution calling for a cease-fire to facilitate the delivery of relief and emergency goods to Gaza.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">However, the proposal could not be passed due to the objections of the other two permanent members, the United States and the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">Then the United States presented a draft resolution on the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas at the council&#8217;s meeting last Saturday. The proposal stated that Israel has the right to self-defense and that Iran should stop supplying weapons to Hamas. It did not include the issue of a humanitarian break in Gaza.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">A majority of Security Council members naturally did not respond to the draft resolution, citing Israel&#8217;s right to self-defense, where hundreds of Palestinian women and children are killed every day by Israeli air strikes. Then, at Tuesday&#8217;s meeting of the council, the US made a final proposal that included declaring a &#8220;humanitarian pause&#8221; in Gaza to allow relief and humanitarian aid to reach Palestinian civilians.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">A vote was taken on that proposal on Wednesday. The two permanent members of the Security Council, China and Russia, vetoed it at the beginning of this phase. Russia&#8217;s representative to the United Nations, Vasiliy Nebenzia, said in his speech that this proposal is actually creating an environment for Israeli forces to conduct ground operations in Gaza. While airstrikes are killing hundreds of Palestinians every day in Gaza, the Security Council cannot authorize the expansion of this war.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">And the Chinese representative to the United Nations, Zhang Jun, said that the whole world is asking for a ceasefire and an end to the conflict in the Al-Aqsa area of Gaza. There is no reflection on this proposal. A ceasefire in Gaza right now is not just a diplomatic move, but a matter of life and death for millions of people living there.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">However, despite the objections of Russia and China, 10 of the 15 member states of the Security Council voted in favor of the proposal.
