Shahriar Alam.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">He said this to reporters at a briefing after a meeting with Diana Jans, Minister for International Development and Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sweden, at the Rashtriya Guest House Padma in the capital on Monday (October 9).<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">In response to a question from journalists about the &#8216;rumours&#8217; of commercial sanctions against Bangladesh from Western countries, the state minister said, I would request that you (journalists) use your talent based on facts and data, as well as foreigners. It may be the United States or the European Union; talk to the representatives of those countries and do the work. I want to say in clear terms that commercial sanctions against Bangladesh before the upcoming national elections are far-fetched, and there is no apprehension, reality, or any context to take any punitive measures.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">In the morning, the US pre-election observation team visiting Dhaka had a meeting with the BNP. The BNP has made it clear to the US delegation that they will not come to the elections under this government.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">When asked about this, Shahriar Alam said that in 2014, they did not come to the polls despite the Prime Minister&#8217;s phone call. He did not come, and I tried to stop him. At that time, there was a cover report in the New York Times. I reported this to Diana Jans. The election in Bangladesh will be according to the constitution of the country. If anyone tries to thwart it, action will be taken as per the law.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">While informing her about the discussion with Diana Jans, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs said that Diana Jans wanted to know about the steps taken by Bangladesh to conduct the upcoming National Parliament elections in a free and fair manner. I gave him the context of the two years of caretaker government before the December 29, 2008 elections: the experience of 2008, the events of boycott and sabotage of elections by some political parties in 2014, arson, and destruction of state assets. Even though those political parties came to the elections in 2018, they did not remain in the elections for the entire time due to the leadership crisis. Apart from this, their efforts are still continuing, they said.
