The bus drivers and helpers do not follow the government-fixed fare. Passengers are being taken as a kind of hostage, and the fare is being charged at will. Once, the minibus fare from Bahaddarhat to Agrabad was Tk 9. That fare was increased by Rs 6 in a jump towards the end of last year. After that, it was increased by two more times, and now 20 taka is being charged. In this way, complaints have been received that extra fare is being collected on almost every route in the city. If there is a rush of passengers after office holidays in the afternoon or during natural calamities, the fares will increase further. Although BRTA has conducted separate operations to stop charging excess fares, the passengers are not getting the long-term benefits of this operation. Passengers are constantly subjected to unusual fare anarchy and frequent harassment. Passengers are held hostage by transport workers&#8217; syndicates. They are forced to travel with extra fare. Incidents like abusing passengers and pushing them out of the car in the middle of the road are happening regularly if they protest.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samiti Chittagong city sources said that buses, minibuses, human haulers, and tempos operating on most routes of the city violate the terms of the permit and operate according to their own preferences for the sake of more profit. Instead of running the entire route, they drop the passengers halfway and collect the fare for the entire route. For example, according to the route permit, the route bus No. 10 is supposed to go from Patenga to Kalurghat, but after the factory holiday in the afternoon, it drops the passengers at Agrabad at a fare of 40 taka from the EPZ gate. Again, the same bus picks up passengers from Agrabad to Bahaddarhat and charges them 40 rupees. Then, from Bahaddarhat to Kalurghat, the passenger is loaded at a fare of 20 taka. That is, one route bus takes three rounds of passengers and charges Tk 100. But the fare from Patenga to Kalurghat is 55 taka. Passengers suffer financially due to the anarchy of picking up and dropping off passengers en route to collect double fares. Apart from this, heavy traffic jams are created due to the haphazard parking of buses on the roads, which sometimes goes beyond the control of the traffic police.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">It has been alleged that excess money is being collected from the public transport system from Shah Amanat Bridge to Moizyartek in the city. The government has set a fare of Tk 10 on this route, but Mahindra cars, tempos, and buses are charging Tk 20. Aggrieved passengers said that Moizzartech charges Tk 20 for the new bridge. But far away from the new bridge, the fare is 20 taka. Transport workers misbehave with passengers if they protest. Most of the passengers plying this route are garment workers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">Passengers said that it has become difficult for them to travel with a fare of Tk 40 per day.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">It is known that almost all the buses plying in Chittagong City are minibuses. The minimum fare in a minibus is 8 taka. But in Chittagong, 2 taka is being increased to 10 taka. Earlier, the fare of big buses was 2 taka 15 paisa per kilometer in the metropolis, but it has been increased to 2 taka 50 paisa. The minibus fare was 2 taka, 5 paisa. It has been increased by 35 paisa to 2 taka 40 paisa.
