{"id":9223,"date":"2023-09-26T06:05:27","date_gmt":"2023-09-26T06:05:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thecrimebd.net\/english\/?p=9223"},"modified":"2023-09-26T06:05:49","modified_gmt":"2023-09-26T06:05:49","slug":"obaidul-hasan-took-the-oath-as-the-24th-chief-justice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thecrimebd.net\/english\/news\/9223\/","title":{"rendered":"Obaidul Hasan took the oath as the 24th Chief Justice"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\"><strong>Dhaka Bureau:<\/strong> Obaidul Hasan has taken oath as the 24th Chief Justice of the country.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">On Tuesday (September 26) at 11 a.m. in the Durbar Hall of Bangabhavan, President Md.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Sahabuddin administered the oath to the newly appointed Chief Justice.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Earlier on September 12, the President appointed Justice Obaidul Hasan as the 24th Chief Justice of the country.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">This appointment will be effective from the date of taking the oath.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"en\"> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Justice Obaidul Hasan was born on January 11, 1959, in a noble Muslim family in Chaishashi (Hatnaya) village under Mohanganj police station in Netrakona district.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">His father&#8217;s name is Akhlakul Hossain Ahmed, and his mother&#8217;s name is Begum Hosne Ara Hossain.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Senior Appellate Judge Obaidul Hasan joined the District Bar Committee after obtaining BSS (Hons.), MSS (Economics), and LLB degrees from Dhaka University as a lawyer in 1986.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">He was enrolled as a lawyer in the High Court Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh in 1988 and as a lawyer in the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh in 2005.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">He served as Assistant Attorney General and Deputy Attorney General for 5 years, from 1996 to 2001. <\/span><\/span><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">He joined the High Court Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh as an Additional Judge on June 30, 2009, and was appointed as a Permanent Judge in the same division on June 6, 2011.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">He joined the International Criminal Tribunal-II on March 25, 2012, as a member of the International Criminal Tribunal for the Trial of Organized Crimes Against Humanity during the War of Liberation. He was appointed Chairman of the Tribunal on December 13, 2012, and served until September 15, 2015.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"en\"> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">During his tenure at the International Criminal Tribunal-II, 11 cases were adjudicated.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">He was appointed as a judge in the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on September 3, 2020.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">He has authored two books titled &#8216;Picture of Indescribable Cruelty: Eighty-One Intellectual Murders\u2014and Others&#8217; and &#8216;Bangabandhu Bangladesh: A War Child Story and Others&#8217;.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Before joining as a judge, Obaidul Hasan gained wide recognition as an accomplished litigator in civil, criminal, and constitutional matters.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Obaidul Hasan served as a part-time teacher at Dhanmondi Law College for a long time.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dhaka Bureau: Obaidul Hasan has taken oath as the 24th Chief Justice of the country.
