{"id":9102,"date":"2023-09-20T04:08:18","date_gmt":"2023-09-20T04:08:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thecrimebd.net\/english\/?p=9102"},"modified":"2023-09-20T04:08:18","modified_gmt":"2023-09-20T04:08:18","slug":"us-delegation-in-dhaka-tikfa-meeting-today","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thecrimebd.net\/english\/news\/9102\/","title":{"rendered":"US delegation in Dhaka, TIKFA meeting today"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\"><strong>Dhaka Bureau:<\/strong> United States Trade and Investment Cooperation Forum Agreement (TICFA) meeting in Dhaka today.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">A 10-member delegation led by USTR Christopher Wills, Assistant for South and Central Asia Affairs of the Office of the US Trade Representative (USTR), arrived in Dhaka.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">The seventh council meeting of TIKFA will begin on Wednesday (September 20) morning at an elite hotel in the capital.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Tapan Kanti Ghosh, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, will lead Bangladesh.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">It is known that Bangladesh wants preferential trade facilities in the US market, duty exemption for export products, including ready-made garments, and exclusive assistance from the country to deal with possible risks after exiting the less developed country.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"en\"> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">On the other hand, the United States wants a quick solution to the complexities of proper factory safety, especially the working environment, the child labor ban, and intellectual property issues.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">There is a mutual desire to facilitate bilateral trade and investment.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">In 2013, the TIKFA Agreement was signed between the two countries for the same purpose.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">A decade of the agreement is about to pass by now.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">During this period, six meetings were held between Dhaka and Washington. <\/span><\/span><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">However, from these meetings, Bangladesh has not achieved anything significant on the issue of interest.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">That is, the achievement is almost zero.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">GSP facility was not found.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">On the contrary, Bangladesh is paying the highest tariff in the US market among 232 countries.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dhaka Bureau: United States Trade and Investment Cooperation Forum Agreement (TICFA) meeting in Dhaka today.
