{"id":8848,"date":"2023-09-05T05:51:59","date_gmt":"2023-09-05T05:51:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thecrimebd.net\/english\/?p=8848"},"modified":"2023-09-05T05:51:59","modified_gmt":"2023-09-05T05:51:59","slug":"severe-erosion-in-padma-in-chapainawabganj","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thecrimebd.net\/english\/news\/8848\/","title":{"rendered":"Severe erosion in Padma in Chapainawabganj"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\"><strong>Chapainawabganj representative:<\/strong> Severe erosion continues in the Padma River in Chapainawabganj.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">A large amount of agricultural land and habitation are disappearing under the river.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Many important buildings, including educational institutions and markets, are at risk of collapse.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Many people are evacuating their houses.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">It has been seen on the ground that river erosion is going on in an area of about 5 km from Khalifachar (Joharpur) of Narayanpur Union of Chapainawabganj Sadar Upazila to Dasarshia of Paka Union of Shibganj Upazila.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">People are moving from house to house in Nishipara Char due to the fear of erosion.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Locals said the Narayanpur Union Parishad of Sadar Upazila, community clinic, shelter center, two primary schools, Narayanpu MA High School, Batas Mor Bazar of Narayanpur, arable land of several thousand farmers, and about 5000 houses are at risk of river erosion.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Munirul Islam, a resident of Padma Par, said that erosion occurs when the water in the Padma river rises and falls.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">At present, the river is breaking due to the upstream flood.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"en\"> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Every year, such a situation has to be faced.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">But the concerned do not take permanent action.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">He said thousands of people live on the banks of the Padma River. <\/span><\/span><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">We demand the construction of a permanent dam to prevent erosion.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Geobags or geotubes are used to prevent temporary embankments. <\/span><\/span><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">but it doesn&#8217;t quite work.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Chapainawabganj Sadar and Shibganj upazilas are being eroded over an area of about 5 and a half kilometers.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">The news of the breach has been reported to the concerned parties. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">The executive engineer of the Chapainawabganj office of the Water Development Board said that maximum efforts are being made to build a permanent dam.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Mokhleshur Rahman.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">He said there is no apparent plan to prevent the erosion of the Padma River. <\/span><\/span><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Areas where river erosion has occurred are grasslands.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">It is impossible to prevent erosion by constructing temporary embankments.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">In the case of erosion over an area of 100\u2013200 meters, the construction of temporary embankments could be planned.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Chapainawabganj representative: Severe erosion continues in the Padma River in Chapainawabganj.
