Dhaka Bureau:<\/strong> Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), the country’s highest medical, educational, and research institution, is currently mired in corruption, irregularities, and mismanagement.<\/span><\/span> Nothing happens without bribes, including recruitment, purchase, and promotion.<\/span><\/span> Many senior and junior doctors, officials, and employees say that there is no place in BSMAU where there is no corruption, irregularities, or mismanagement.<\/span><\/span> Now corruption is everywhere.<\/span><\/span> An overwhelming majority of doctors are outraged by corruption, irregularities, and mismanagement.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

According to them, the quality of medical care is also about to collapse.<\/span><\/span> Doctors say against a group including VCs involved in corruption.<\/span><\/span> Which is headed by the VC himself, claimed senior doctors.<\/span><\/span> Since its establishment in 1998, the university has been gaining reputation in medicine, education, and research at home and abroad.<\/span><\/span> During the four-party government, including the BNP, a group led by a VC at the time turned it into a fortress of corruption, including recruitment, transfer, promotion, and purchase.<\/span><\/span> At that time, there was a nationwide discussion and criticism among the medical community.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

The same picture has emerged during the tenure of the current VC.<\/span><\/span> Appointments, purchases, promotions, and mismanagement are visible.<\/span><\/span> A driver at that university also said that nothing happens except bribery at this university.<\/span><\/span> Talking to this representative, the driver said, I have never seen such corruption in my life.<\/span><\/span> A person engaged in the medical profession can commit corruption in this way.<\/span><\/span> Renowned nose, ear, and throat specialist Dr.<\/span><\/span> During the tenure of Pran Gopal Dutt as VC, this medical university achieved great development in treatment, education, and research.<\/span><\/span> Whose reputation was spread across the country and abroad.<\/span><\/span> That reputation is being erased under the current VC.<\/span><\/span> Senior professors have acknowledged this fact.<\/span><\/span> A former Chhatra League leader has appealed to the Prime Minister, seeking remedies against corruption and irregularities against this VC.<\/span><\/span> Bangabandhu went to Sheikh Mujib Medical University to conduct an investigation and found information about corruption, irregularities, and mismanagement.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Several senior doctors said it was surprising to think that a senior doctor could be involved in such corruption, irregularities, and mismanagement.<\/span><\/span> The investigation revealed that the wife of VC PS Doctor Russell called the BCL leader and said, “You go to my sahib’s chamber with another 12 lakh rupees; I have spoken; your work will be done.”<\/span><\/span> The leader went to the chamber of VC PS Russell with 12 lakh taka. When he handed over 12 lakh taka, the PS said, 12 lakh taka can be given to my sir; more money will be needed.<\/span><\/span> Where is mine<\/span><\/span>? This audio recording is with a representative of Ittefaq.<\/span><\/span> Russell headed the Corruption, Irregularities, and Mismanagement Group.<\/span><\/span> All corruption is managed through him.<\/span><\/span> Several university officials have confirmed this.<\/span><\/span> This VC has appointed 1,800 doctors, nurses, and officials in just two and a half years.<\/span><\/span> Only 500 people have been appointed through the notification.<\/span><\/span> About 1,300 people were directly appointed on an ad hoc basis.<\/span><\/span> It is alleged that Tk 5 lakh to Tk 20 lakh has been extorted in this appointment.<\/span><\/span> Instead of appointing the senior professor as the chairman of the department, he appointed his student.<\/span><\/span> It is alleged that a large sum of money has been transacted here as well.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Senior doctors have alleged irregularities in another 10 such appointments.<\/span><\/span> Senior doctors do not know if any corruption like BSMMU’s Sagar theft has taken place in any educational institution.<\/span><\/span> Several officials of the concerned ministries have expressed dissatisfaction with the activities of this VC.<\/span><\/span> The current VC is at the top of making the university patriotic. <\/span><\/span>While some VCs have been accused of nepotism in the past, none have been as nepotistic as the current VC.<\/span><\/span> He has appointed 11 family members, including children, to power.<\/span><\/span> Horilut did so in the name of convocation at the university.<\/span><\/span> He didn’t care about any rules.<\/span><\/span> In the certificate, the scribe and scribe were full of mistakes in the words.<\/span><\/span> In this regard, evidence of corruption and irregularities amounting to lakhs of rupees has been found in the audit.<\/span><\/span> Did not follow any rules in the tender process.<\/span><\/span> The corruption involved a group, including VCs, who took his word for it.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

A super hospital with 750 beds was established next to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University.<\/span><\/span> Its infrastructure and administrative management are completely different.<\/span><\/span> It will be that all types of patients with all types of complex diseases will get good treatment; the current Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, established this hospital with this attitude.<\/span><\/span> The South Korean government provided a loan of $130 million.<\/span><\/span> The hospital was inaugurated last June with that loan.<\/span><\/span> The VC hastily inaugurated it with the Prime Minister before the construction work was fully completed.<\/span><\/span> But this hospital is not fully operational yet.<\/span><\/span> Because of his reporting, this hospital is also about to go down the drain.<\/span><\/span> A patient has already died on the table while undergoing an angiogram.<\/span><\/span> The uproar started over it.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

This super-specialized hospital is being run somehow by bringing doctors from the main building.<\/span><\/span> But it was not to be.<\/span><\/span> It is now being dug up.<\/span><\/span> Already, there have been allegations of corruption and irregularities, even in the name of the appointment of doctors and nurses.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The project director of this super-specialized hospital, Professor Dr.<\/span><\/span> Md.<\/span><\/span> Zulfikar Rahman Khan, said that this super-specialized hospital should have separate infrastructure, including management and administration.<\/span><\/span> But it’s going the other way.<\/span><\/span> Due to which mismanagement is normal.<\/span><\/span> In this situation, the super-specialized hospital will become like a clinic.<\/span><\/span> Senior doctors are claiming this.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
