His lawyers made the announcement in a press conference at the BSEC Building&#8217;s Lex Council in Kawranbazar, the capital, on Saturday (June 10).<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">The Daily Star published a &#8216;column&#8217; titled &#8216;Cutting Trees to Make Way for Air&#8217; in their print and online editions. Following this, a legal notice was sent to the Daily Star on June 5.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">Barrister Mejbahur Rahman, lawyer for Mayor Tapas, said in the notice that we said that the defamatory article about Mayor Tapas should be removed from the internet. At the same time, the Daily Star authorities should tender an unconditional apology. If they do not issue an apology report and pay compensation of Rs 100 crore within the remaining period of the notice, they will be prosecuted under criminal and civil law.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">A legal notice issued to the Daily Star on behalf of Sheikh Fazle Noor Tapas on June 5 said that defamatory allegations were made and published in national dailies, online publications, social media, and networks with the criminal intent to insult and harass the mayor, through which the mayor, his family, and the hard-earned reputation of the organization have been damaged.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">The legal notice asked the Daily Star to take down the &#8216;column&#8217; within 24 hours, publish a report offering an unconditional apology, and pay compensation within 7 days.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dhaka Bureau: Lawyers for Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Barrister Fazle Noor Tapas have announced a defamation suit of Tk 100 crore, claiming that a romantic piece published in The Daily Star has been defamed.
