Among the two units of this power plant, one unit with a production capacity of 660 MW was shut down on May 25. The production of this power plant may be stopped for the next 20\u201325 days.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">Confirming the matter, Shah Abdul Hasib, the supervising engineer of Payra thermal power plant, said on Sunday (June 4) night that Bangladesh Bank and the government are making arrangements for the payment of 100 million dollars. It will start a new supply of coal. But coal will take at least 20\u201325 days to arrive. During this time, the power generation at the center will be stopped. Then production will resume in the last week of June, when the coal arrives.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">He also said that 9% of the country&#8217;s total electricity demand was being supplied from this power plant. That is, after going to the national grid, the electricity generated from here was supplied to some areas of Dhaka besides Barisal and Khulna divisions. Due to this, if the power plant is closed, it will definitely have a negative impact on the power sector.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">Meanwhile, power plant authorities have informed us that the power plant&#8217;s current debt to the Bangladesh Power Development Board (PDB) is around Tk 5,000 crore. LCs were not being opened due to a dollar shortage. And because of this, coal imports are not possible. Due to a lack of coal, electricity production is going to stop.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\"><strong>How much impact will there be on load shedding?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">At present, the average daily electricity demand in Bangladesh is 13 to 13,500 megawatts. On the contrary, on average, 12 to 12.5 thousand megawatts of electricity are produced every day.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">But sometimes more electricity is produced than the daily requirement. For example, on April 29 of this year, more than 15,000 megawatts of electricity were produced. On that day, the electricity demand in the country was 11,555 MW.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">But according to PDB, even though the power generation was 3000 MW more than the demand, the electricity supply in Bangladesh was 90 MW less than the total demand on that day.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">Because even though there is power generation capacity, due to a lack of transmission and supply lines, electricity cannot be properly supplied to consumers. Therefore, in many areas, customers do not get electricity service properly.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">Payra Power Plant has been generating electricity at its full capacity every day for the past three years since its commissioning. Therefore, PDB director and public relations officer Shamim Hasan fears that the level of load shedding may increase if this center is closed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">He said, &#8220;If it rains during this period, there may not be much pressure on electricity because the demand is lower during the rainy season.&#8221; But if the weather is clear and the temperature is above 35 degrees, then the level of load shedding will increase a little.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">Shamim Hasan said that in that case, in the areas where electricity is supplied from Payra power plant, there may be more pressure in those areas.
