They said that in the 2023\u201324 budget, the monthly allowance of Tk 850 has remained unchanged. It is difficult to live with this money in the &#8216;high commodity price&#8217; market.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">They said this at the post-budget response event titled &#8216;National Budget 2023\u201324: Status of Persons with Disabilities&#8217;. This event was organized at the National Press Club on Sunday under the initiative of the Access Bangladesh Foundation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">The supporting organizations in the program were the Disabled Child Foundation, National Council of Disabled Women, National Trinamul Disability Organization, Foundation for Humanity, Global Affairs Canada, Sitakunda Federation, SDSL, Turning Pointe Foundation, Mama Cash, and Women with Disabled Development Foundation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">Albert Molla, executive director of Access Bangladesh Foundation, said that the monthly allowance recommended by the National Social Security Strategy is Tk 1,500, and the monthly allowance determined based on the 2020 cost of living index mentioned in the eighth five-year plan is Tk 3,000. Currently, the monthly allowance is only 850 taka. The cost of living for disabled people is relatively high. He demanded that the amount of the monthly allowance for disabled people be increased considering the rise in current commodity prices and the cost of living.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">In the response meeting, WDDF Executive Director Ashrafun Nahar presented 11 demands to the government. Notable among the demands are a monthly allowance for persons with disabilities based on the national social security strategy and cost of living index in the 8th Five Year Plan, the introduction of an allowance program for caregivers of severely disabled persons, and the self-employment of persons with disabilities due to the changed situation post-Covid-19 and the global economic recession. Taking projects in creation, allotment for skill development training of disabled persons, and government initiatives to ensure employment after training, taking effective initiatives to implement quotas in government jobs<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">He demanded to remove the barriers of communication and travel, to facilitate movement and communication of disabled people according to the type of disability and needs of quality aids such as wheelchairs, tri-cycle specialized scooters, walkers, sadachari (manual and digital), crutches, hearing aids, portable ramps, magnifying glasses, prosthetic-orthotic (artificial limbs and assistive devices), speech to text, text to speech, accessible mobile app braille printer, keyboard, head pointer, jointic, large print material, screen reading software, etc.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">Access Bangladesh Foundation president Mahua Pal presided over the event and also spoke on the occasion, as did disabled child foundation executive director Nasreen Jahan, SWID general secretary Mahabubul Monir, and others.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dhaka Bureau: People with disabilities said that they cannot live on a monthly allowance of Tk 850.
