As a result, there has been an extreme cooking crisis in homes and hotels along with the transport sector which is dependent on gas. There was gas shortage in many areas of Chittagong city on Saturday. But since Sunday morning, it has become evident. Officials of Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company Limited (KGDCL) said that they will have to wait for a few more days to overcome this gas crisis.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Residents of Jamalkhan, Hemsen Lane, Momin Road, Lalkhan Bazar, Nasirabad Housing Society, Chandgaon, Halishahar, Baklia in different areas of Chittagong city have informed about their crisis. Many queue up at hotels to buy breakfast and lunch. Others are using electric ovens, kerosene stoves. Many people are cooking with dry bamboo-cuts by making a temporary oven by placing bricks in the balcony of the house or somewhere else.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Professor Hossain Kabir of Chittagong University, a resident of Lalkhanbazar area of the city, said that most of the gas supply lines in the homes are off. Cooking is stopped in many homes. Shopkeepers say that the food like bread ran out soon after the shop opened in the morning. In various places of the street, seasonal artisans are providing snacks by frying parathas in oil in cylinder gas stoves or wood stoves. And there is a long line to collect it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">School teacher Lipi Dhar, a resident of JM Sen Lane in Jamalkhan area, said, &#8220;I managed to cook in an electric stove in the afternoon, but if there is no electricity, I don&#8217;t understand what will happen to the family members.&#8221; Especially children&#8217;s stomachs should be fed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Mohammad Hossain, a resident of Bahaddarhat area, bought a kerosene stove and kerosene and was returning home in a tempo from Kotwali area at noon. He said, &#8220;Since yesterday, I suddenly saw that there is no gas in the line, I thought I would get it today, but later I heard that it will be like this for a few more days.&#8221; So forced to buy stove and kerosene and going home. When I go home, then I will cook. Rajshree Sinha of Kazi Deuri also said that he did not even get bread after going to the shop in the morning. He said, &#8220;Fortunately, I had some cooking before, so somehow I was able to heat it in the electric stove.&#8221; Such a crisis is everywhere in Chittagong city.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Meanwhile, even though there is no gas supply, the smell of gas can be found in the kitchen in several areas of the city. However, General Manager (Operations) of KGDCL Aminur Rahman advised not to panic. He said that &#8216;odorant&#8217; is used to check gas leakage. As the gas supply is off, the smell of this chemical is getting stronger.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">General Manager (Engineering) of KGDCL Raees Uddin Ahmed said to complain to KGDCL hotline if any gas leakage is reported anywhere: 16512, Head Office- Phone: +8802334452796, Mobile: +8801730728444, Halishahar Office- Phone: +880312526604, +8802333311620, Mobile: +8801 777717608 number .<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to the relevant sources, KGDCL has a total of 6 lakh 1 thousand 914 subscribers and connections in Chittagong. Among them, 5 lakh 97 thousand 561 household connections. The daily gas demand is about 325 million cubic feet. 270 to 300 million cubic feet are available from the Maheshkhali LNG terminal. Chittagong CNG station has been closed due to gas shortage. Many had to return to their cars to get gas. Besides, gas supply has been stopped in industrial establishments.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">KGDCL Managing Director (MD) Engineer. Rafiqul Islam said that there will be gas shortage in Chittagong for the next few days due to gas supply from two floating LNG terminals in Maheshkhali. At present gas is being supplied from reserves. Reserves typically contain 80 to 85 million cubic feet of gas. That reserve also runs out on Sunday.
