At the meeting, Secretary of the Textile and Jute Ministry Md. Abdur Rauf, Director General of the Jute Department, Selina Akhtar (Additional Secretary),<br style=\"color: #252525;\" \/>Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Textiles and Jute, Md. Mahmud Hossain, Taslima Kaniz Nahida, and senior officials of the Ministry of Textiles and Jute and the Directorate of Jute were present.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">He said that the Hon&#8217;ble Prime Minister has declared jute as the &#8220;product of the year 2023&#8242; and jute as an agricultural product. In the current era of sustainable development, we are trying to exploit the global demand for eco-friendly jute and jute products. There is a relaxation in the use of jute products in the country, which is unintended. From now on, according to the &#8216;Compulsory Use of Jute Wrapping in Products Act, 2010&#8217;, strict legal measures must be taken to ensure the use of jute sacks in 19 products.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">The minister told the officers of the Jute Department that, according to the &#8216;Compulsory Use of Jute Wraps in Products Act, 2010&#8217;, the use of jute sacks is mandatory for 19 products. If someone uses plastic in these products, then the legal system will be strengthened. Although the campaign is ongoing throughout the country, a special campaign has to be conducted in the current context.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">He hopes that by fully implementing the law, it will be possible to create demand for jute sacks. As a result, the demand for jute and jute products will increase in the local market, the jute farmers will get a fair price for jute, and above all, the jute industry and the environment will be protected along with the increase in jute production.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">It should be noted that according to the &#8216;Compulsory Use of Jute Wraps in Products Act, 2010&#8217;, six (six) products, i.e., rice, rice, wheat, maize, fertilizer, and sugar, have been prescribed for the mandatory use of jute wraps. Later, on January 21, 2017, a total of 17 (seventeen) jute wrappers, including more chillies, turmeric, onions, ginger, garlic, pulses, coriander, potatoes, flour, and bran-khud-kura, were determined for compulsory use. On August 6, 2018, the use of jute sacks was made mandatory for packaging pulp and feed. According to Section 14 of the Compulsory Use of Jute Wrapping in Products Act, 2010, if jute wrapping is not used, the person will be punished with imprisonment not exceeding one year, a fine not exceeding 50 thousand taka, or both.
