It is said that at least 74 people have been killed. These attacks happened in the north-central Benue state of the country this week.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">Police and local officials have confirmed this information. Aljazeera news.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">Between Friday evening (April 7) local time and Saturday morning, 28 bodies were recovered from a camp of internally displaced people in Emgban Local Government Area, Benue State Police Spokesperson Catherine Annene said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">It was not immediately clear what led to the attack. Witnesses said the gunmen appeared suddenly and started firing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">Earlier, a separate gun attack took place in the remote Umogidi village of Otukpo Local Government Area of the same state last Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">Otukpo chairman Bako Eje said that on that day, suspected herdsmen attacked villagers attending a funeral.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">Paul Hemba, security adviser to the state governor, said 46 bodies had been recovered after Wednesday&#8217;s attack.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, in a statement on Saturday, condemned the recent killings in Benue State and ordered security forces to step up surveillance in the affected areas.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">Security forces are often delayed in reaching remote areas of Nigeria, despite frequent distress signals. As a result, many attacks never come to light.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">Benue is one of the central states of the country. There is fierce competition between farmers and herders for land use. Ethnic and religious divisions are often involved in this conflict.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">Local herders blame nomadic herders for destroying the farmland where their cattle graze.
