According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), this reserve is less than $7 billion. That is 24 billion dollars. The government has agreed to calculate the reserve as set by the IMF under the terms of the loan of 4.7 billion dollars. Although Bangladesh Bank has not yet officially published that account,<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">Officials of the Forex Reserve and Treasury Management Department of the Central Bank said that the amount of the Central Bank&#8217;s reserves was 32.25 billion dollars last Monday. 105 crores ($1.05 billion) in import bills for the January-February period of the Asian Clearing Union (ACU) were released on Tuesday. It was adjusted on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">Reserves have fallen by $17 billion in the last year and a half. Reserves crossed the $48 billion milestone on August 24, 2021, surpassing all previous records to reach $48.32 billion. A year ago, on March 1 of last year, the reserves stood at $46 billion. Reserves fell to $32.50 billion in the first week of January after Akura paid its $1.12 billion import bill for the November-December period. Before that, it was over 34 billion dollars.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">Bangladesh Bank has released the latest December import cost data. It can be seen that a total of 6.04 billion dollars was spent on importing goods in that month. As can be seen, with the current reserves, the import expenses for a little more than five months can be met. And if we calculate according to the conditions of the IMF, the import cost of four months will be covered with this reserve.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">According to international standards, a country should hold at least three months worth of foreign exchange reserves to meet its import expenditure. Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Iran, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives are currently members of ACUR. Bangladesh has to pay the bills for goods imported from these countries every two months through AKU. However, Sri Lanka pulled out of Akure two months ago due to the crisis.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525; text-align: justify;\">Bangladesh Bank increased the amount of the Export Development Fund (EDF) by 7 billion dollars to increase the reserves. Besides, the Long Term Fund (LTF) and Green Transformation Fund (GTF) are formed with the reserve money. Money was given to Bangladesh Biman to buy the aircraft and to Sonali Bank. Again, money has been given from the reserve for the excavation program of Ravanabad Channel at Payra Port. Sri Lanka was given a loan of 20 million dollars. A total of 8 billion dollars have been used in these sectors. Recently, however, the amount of EDF has been reduced to 6 billion dollars. Accordingly, now 7 billion dollars of reserves are being used in various sectors.
