International Desk:<\/strong> The death toll in the worst train accident in history in Greece has risen to 43. More than half a hundred were injured. A freight train collided with a passenger train near the country’s Larisa city before midnight on Tuesday (March 1) local time.<\/p>\n

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis blamed the accident on human error. Already, the country’s infrastructure and transport minister, Costas Karamanlis, has resigned after accepting responsibility for the failure.<\/p>\n

It is reported that a freight train collided with a train carrying about 300 passengers. The first two compartments of the passenger train caught fire. Two buggies were completely destroyed.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, it is being described as the worst accident in Greece’s recent history.<\/p>\n

28-year-old Stergios Menenis saved his life by jumping from the train. Narrating the incident, he said, ‘We heard a loud noise. We were rolling in the compartment of the train. Then it rolled and stopped on one side. Then everyone panicked. Wires hanging around, fire. The fire caught immediately. We were on fire.’<\/p>\n

Local media reported that an investigation has been launched to find out the cause of the accident. No preliminary ideas are available yet. More than 150 firefighters and 30 ambulances attended the scene.<\/p>\n

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited the crash site. He promised to find out how such an accident happened and take measures to prevent it from happening again.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
