The Ministry of Higher Education of the country said that this order will remain in force until further orders.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In light of the country&#8217;s cabinet decision, the Ministry of Higher Education ordered all public and private university authorities in Afghanistan to suspend the admission of women on an urgent basis in a letter issued on Tuesday (December 20).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the letter signed by Higher Education Minister Neda Mohammad Nadeem, it is said that you are informed of the urgent implementation of the said order suspending girls&#8217; education until further notice.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ministry spokesperson Ziaullah Hashimi, who posted the letter on social media Twitter, confirmed the order to several media outlets including AFP, AP.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">UN spokesman Stephen Dujarric called the Taliban&#8217;s decision &#8220;worrying&#8221; on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This is clearly another breach of promise by the Taliban, he told reporters.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This UN official said that since the Taliban took power, women&#8217;s place in the public sphere, including education, is getting smaller.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">News of the Taliban&#8217;s decision to stop women&#8217;s higher education came within the meeting of the United Nations Security Council in New York. The United States and the United Kingdom condemned it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">US Deputy Ambassador to the United Nations, Robert Wood, said the Taliban cannot expect to be a fair member of the international community unless it respects the human rights and fundamental rights of all Afghans, especially women and girls.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Taliban said the decision to ban women from higher education institutions was done to maintain &#8220;national interest&#8221; and &#8220;respect&#8221;.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>International Desk: The Taliban has banned women from the universities of Afghanistan.
